Hi,

I own a Delta 1010LT and recorded some tracks with my guitar. But instead of getting a drummer, bassist etc. I want to add those parts myself. Is there any good program out there to create your own bass/drum streams via PC? Or any other good way?

Thanks!

Hey, stormblast.

I used a Yamaha RY9 drum machine for the song in my signature line. I do some editing of the track (move fills around, etc.). I'm thinking about learning to program drums in Fruity Loops or something like that.

ummm...
whichever way you go software or hardware wise, the best advice I can give you is to not to "add" the drums...
lay the drums down first...then track to them...
otherwise you will be chasing yourself with editing...
Also,... a bass guitar will probably cost as much as a program would...
start with a P-bass knock off or whatever...you will be glad that you did.

I use a yamaha keyboard and loop samples from that in CEP as .WAVs...
add fills that way too...

it works for me,
Good luck,
Joe

Definitely lay the drums down first as joro said. I'd also suggest using a real bass guitar. Since you already play guitar, the basslines you'll come up with will certainly be as good as any programmed bass.
For drums I myself use Fruit Loops. It takes some time to get good at it but with some practice you can make pretty realistic drums.
I add keys using midi plug-ins and a midi-keyboard.
You can check some of my stuff out here if you want:

I play the guitar, bass and sing the vocals on my recordings. I add drums and/or percussion with fruity loops. I get great results. BTW, I have added bass parts with fruity loop's piano roll before...but it sounds like a moog or something (which is cool for some things)..

Using Fruity Loops as a VSTi in Acid 4 has yielded me the best results yet because if you save the drums as a wav, you cant make fine adjustments later. I have saved all my favorite drum samples to a .flp (fruity loop project) like "my drums" and use that as a starting point so it loads all the pluins etc. and keeps the drum sound consistant. One thing I have learned if you want it to sound like real drums, is to remember a real drummer only has 2 arms. So really, you cant be doing a snare roll, playing the high hat, and an inhumanly fast drum roll at the same time (yeah, everybody knows someone). Just keep in perspective how a real drummer plays; where thier arms would be; and the basic laws of physics.

I agree with all that is said above. I create my drum tracks in Fruity Loops. I record my real bass through my GNX3 via spdif. Same with vocals, keyboards, etc. I record into Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro. Not a super flashy program, but it is cheap and it gets the job done.

Here is a link to some of the stuff that I havent written and recorded.

Also, check in the "Computer Recording and Soundcards" section of this forum. You will probably find more answers there.

Just to throw in a wrench I assume you're running a PC, I use a Mac myself and use Ableton Live to assemble my drum loops and one hits, a nice feature of Live is that it is very intuitive and easy to get started with. I do all my compositions in Live. Live runs great on PC too. It is also great in a live set up as an instrument. I have actually done a solo gig where I played bass and sang and Live provided all the rest of the band. (It was kinda cool)

This may not be what you are looking for but I will mention it in case you want to look into it... there is an auto-accompany type program called Band-in-a-Box. With it you choose a musical style and tempo and type in the chords of your song and it generates bass, drums, and keys for you. You can even place drum fills at strategic places in the song. Probably not cutting edge (some might find it stiff and mechanical) but it may serve the purpose for what you want to do.
