I want to know how to or what software I need so I can encode the names
of songs when I burn an audio CD, so the song name shows up like they do when I put in a store bought CD in my computer.
Right now I'm using Jam 5.0 on Mac G4, system 10.3.9 and after I burn a CD and put it in my computer for iTunes, etc all I see is Track 1, Track 2, etc-not the song name.
Any tips, info is greatly appreciated, thanks

don't know if its available for mac or not, but i'm using nero. it encodes artist name and song titles.

song name shows up on cd player display as each track begins.

Well, if all you want is to be able to see the name in a computer connected to the internet, you can just add the data to CDDB. If you want a CD that will display the song titles on CD players, then you need to burn it a certain way. Most burning software has an option for CD text. I, personally, have never tried it, so I'm not sure how well it works.

windows media player, like a lot of common media players, will NOT read CD TEXT without a special (usually 3rd party) plugin....they all access CDDB and stuff like that.

btw, how do you add info to the CDDB?

CD Architect (only the newest version, I think), WaveLab, Samplitude... All are excellent PQ coding programs with CD TEXT avaiable.

There are several programs that will upload information to CDDB and FreeDB... Audiograbber, Plextools even has an ap... I think WaveLab has one also. I'd imagine even Winamp has a function (or plugin) for submission.

If I remember right, I believe that your CD burner must also be CD Text capable to allow this as well.

yeah only the newest cd architect.

but, good shot on this, i have audiograbber, and i didn't even know it could do it. ha

the files have to be a different type if im not mistaken it will still be the standard format read by cd players its another type of file like aif or wav (ie its essentially the same format underneath, which is to say their both pulse code modulation but slightly different) unfortunately i cant remember the file type.

If you're on a mac burn it using iTunes.

If you apple+I on the track you can fill in all the info, and the apple+, and you'll get into the prefs menu, on the "advanced" tab select the "burning" part and there you can chose whether to burn CD txt or not!

simple as..

As far as i know thats only stored on itunes not the mp3 ect. file so it only shows up in itunes on the computer it was burned with (or mabe just in itunes not other media players). but thats not tested by me yet

:D Anybody know if the "name of the song" can be written on the Yam 2816?

I've never tried but now I will as there is a "Description" box that pops up on the sequence when I burn the CD stereo track to the HD of the 2816.

Would save me all the hassle of typing out a separate song title list.

nope - you didn't read it properly! this actually writes CD-txt!!

And it works! my car CD player as well as a few others i've tried in various studios all displayed artist & track name!

Seems like nero lets you do it by editing song info before the burn. I am not sure if it is embeded in the song or on the cd as a seperate file.

I now some programs will allow you to use the file name with a dash in the middle to put artist & song but, no album or copyright info.
