How do you dampen your kick drum?

Evans E-MAD head. Before thos came out, just tune it low and put a (one) pillow in it.

Evans also makes these little pillow looking things that lean up against the heads. When you hit the drum, they bounce a little. That lets the head resonate for a second before it stops. So you get the low end of not having it muffled while still having some control.

I go back and fourth between Evans Emad (batter and reso) or just a well placed pillow.

I have an EQ3 with a retro screen reso (Evans)... when you have those two, you don't need any more muffling.

I only dampen when I record.

It's hollow live. It sounds good and is louder.

Remo PSIII baby

4 lbs of pinto beans sewed up into a half a pillow case... :D

I have a small pillow in it that barely touches both head. Its a really flat pillow also, but mostly, its all about tuning. Remember, the bass drum is a DRUM as well. You have to learn to tune it properly so you can get a killer sound out of it without muffling the hell out of it.

I try to use as little as possible. I see a lot of guys that wind up with a 10'' tom after all the packing goes in.

EMAD!...very nice...nothing in my kick drum anymore!...has anyone here used the emad reso head yet?

Wide open...EMAD without foam inlay, just slight dampening from the plastic ring. Fiberskyn on the reso; no hole. Beta52 about three inches from beater impact and about 20 degrees off axis. Both heads fairly loose.
