Any suggestions or tips for getting a professional sounding recording with a Roland? I've heard if you bypass the Roland's preamps, it improves the quality of your recording. Does anyone know how to do that. It doesn't tell you that in the manual.

I don't own the Roland, but you should be able to bypass the mic pre gain stage by using a "Line In". There's probably another gain stage prior to the recorder...a level or source potentiometer, which could not be bypassed. Just go for a unity gain setting on that one...12-2 oclock usual.

To bypass the mic pres in the BR-1600, just connect a LINE LEVEL out put from your external preamp into the 1600's 1/4" jack, and keep the Preamp Gain knob (on the 1600) turned all the way down.

There is no way to bypass the preamp. The line in goes through a pad then to the mic pre. The only way to bypass is to go digital.

I already answered this question, in some detail. Cross posting the SAME QUESTION is annoying. The answer isn't going to change. You have to use a digital input to bypass the pres, and you only get 2 at a time. Furthermore, once you have the tracks, you must export them digitally, leaving them in the digital domain. You get to export them 2 at a time, in real time, by S/PDIF, and synch them manually in your PC. Been there, done that. From VS1824CD to Pro Tools, in nine easy hours.-Richie
