because everytime I post 'watch my covers or originals please 'on major songs I get flagged. YouTube, myspace, facebook and pretty much any other site I get the same response.
How do I promote if people keep flagging me as spam?
I'm only a one man musician (rapper/singer with guitar).
Annoys the he'll outta me when this happens and I lose sleep over it........

It's a joke. It's from the earlier thread - that you also posted in.

I've never tried linking or whatever it's called my youtube videos to other videos. I know that's how some get popular - but it's exactly that. Spam.

Only thing I can think of is drive people to your youtube channel using a different medium.

If you add people on myspace, you're getting flagged as spam?

I know lots of people (including myself) that add bands on myspace. Even if they request me - I'll give them a listen first ofcourse - and If I like them I'll add em'.

Are you just adding as many people as you can find? Try to find people that like your genre of music - Find someone popular who sounds like you and add his/her friends.

I've seen that work. If you go on let's say - Tila Tiquilas page, and try and add her friends - well. That's just spam.

It works for some people because ive seen many spamming but they get like 1000s of views and subscribers at the same time

I'm not sure what you're saying...

Are you saying that when you post links to your songs that are on YouTube they get flagged? I post my original stuff here and it's never got flagged or taken off.

Here's one:

If that gets flagged it will be the first ever. :(

Do you mean when you use someone else's songs without permission? That should get flagged 'cause it's stealing! :)

I'm not sure what you mean, I've never had one song flagged anywhere.

I already have a cover license from harry fox. I basically go to the popular song I'm covering saying 'please check out my cover version' and then I get flagged as spam....

What if you don't mention it's a cover?

A thought I had was that maybe the Harry Fox license doesn't cover the net. Does it?

I said in my last post that I've seen it work for some people.

What is with you and taking advice? I know it works for some people - you don't have to repeat that to me.

Your problem is that it's NOT working for you. Replying "But it works for some people" isn't even asking for advice anymore.

I've got a video that got me thousands of views, and a good amount of subscribers. And yes - it was a cover

But I never posted it on anyone elses videos. I simply put the proper tags on there - no "naked women - boobs - lady gaga".

I'm no expert on this, I'm only trying to give you my best advice. Just put the right tags on there. You will get views - and if it's not in the thousands - eh, I don't see why it's a big deal.

Thanks!

Just to show you how fucked up the economy is:

I recorded that CD for a course that my sister was teaching at the U of Southern California (San Diego) and it was to be used for teaching that course - a course on healing touch. Now if that CD was used year after year, and some are, for a university I stood to make a healthy, steady chunk of change. I was thinking $10K for at least 5 years (50K total). Maybe even 10 or more years. But alas, the same month my sister became a doctor she lost her job and her house. A doctor that can't get a job and loses their home?

It does look like I have a good chance at it being picked up by the U of Hawaii (she teaches there now) though so it might eventually pan out.

I have to add too that the music was from the heart, it wasn't made for the money, so it's a success regardless.

Just let your music stand for itself. Send out lots of friend requests and be friendly with people. Always be personal. If you don't have time, it's better not to say anything than to spam. I don't really like getting canned messages either, even if it's from a band I like. Also an eye catching visual presentation whatever that might entail can help to draw people in before they even hear your music. Just think about what people interested in your kind of music are really into and flaunt it right up front in an over the top manner.

One trick I saw a friend of mine do with his music that I thought was a really good idea is that he slightly changed his user image when announcing something new, rather than send out mass messages or any of that. It caught my eye, and led me to where I could buy the album without the need for spam, just by looking at the user image with the words "new album out now!" on it.

I find that a lot of people on myspace and youtube almost beat people over the head with it. I'd say, the trick is to present yourself in a way that people come to you, rather than you telling them to. Having a public persona doesn't hurt either. ;)

Thanks!

usc in san diego?

I really like it =)

And I go to southwestern =0

Cool! My sister really liked it too. She taught nursing and was bummed she had to move but as you know the economy is in unchartered territory.

It sounds like a nice place to live. But she did go through the fires and the occasional coyote that she was scared was going to nab here small dog. :(

lol, I just moved into a condo in an upper class part of town and there's signs all over about coyotes napping dogs.

I keep my baby inside.
