hello i ont know ive seen alot of people do this, some people write lyrics before figuring out how to put them in the song somone give me advice on their technique ? ? ?

Good Question! I was wondering the same thing for a very long time. After a while I realized that most people right the lyrics and fit them to a song. Most of the time you have to change words around a bit to fit the rythm of the music. Or,, if there in a band, the band comes up with a song and the singer takes it home and rights somthing around it..

I kinda like to go inbetween these two methods. I like the rythm of the words comming out more than what the actual words are. Mike Patton would be a great example of this. Faith no More was a band that had some great vocal rythms and hooks that made up for alot of crazy lyrics.

Often I get out the acoustic guitar and start strumming along and sing whatever comes to mind over top of that. Most of the time it's stuff that doesn't make any sense. But I find some really awesome hooks like that. Then go back later and fill in the nonsense with actual words.

im retarded like that :)

Are you asking how to write lyrics before you have music?

To do that, you have to set a rhythm to follow. (That's called a 'meter'). A rhyme scheme helps too. Then you write using a song structure like Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus or whatever. It's not the easiest way to begin writing songs. You have to be aware of what 'standard' song structures are. But once you know that, you can make some good progress. It's all about form.

An alternate way is to write new lyrics to existing songs. That gives you a good structure to start with and you can then add a new melody to your new lyrics, thus getting a new song.

I will come up with a music arrangement that is more often than not completely recorded before I mess with lyrics. On my latest project I had all of the instruments on 9 out of 13 songs tracked before I wrote one word.
My songs generally do not have a chorus section, so I will go into Power Tab, which is what I use for arranging, and loop the verse riff. I will then just sit here listening to the verse riff repeating until a vocal melody emerges. A line or ryhme will pop in my head then I will pull the rest out of my ass.
So for me it's music first.
