I would Like to learn how to hook up my sterio to my computer so that I can put my old albums on cd's

On your receiver, take the tape outs (might be labeled "Play") into the "Line In" on your soundcard. This will require a stereo RCA to 1/8" phono cable.

Then you need software. Try http://www.goldwave.com

Slackmaster 2000

You can also use line pre-amp on your turntable to make it more accessable to your computer. And use your headphone jack from your stereo (turn volume down to just below 1 before trying this). Visit your local Radio Shack/Audio Electronics Store for patch cords tell them what you are doing and they should be able to set you up with the needed cables. I haven't used Goldwave but I did not see any tools for eliminateing any of records usual problems click's, pops. I would recomend Cool Edit 2000 with just the audio cleanup plugin for removeing hiss and noise, The studio plugin if you want to make a mono record sound stereo. A third party plugin called Clickfix is a must for record cleanup it works really good at getting rid of most clicks and pops without messing the music up. The Syntrillium link above will get you there.

"Eurythmic"

Hey thanks for the link I have been useing a mixture simialar for years will have to give this one a try.

The sound card I have is a Monster sound MX400 I have tried to use the mic. jack to record the records, but the sound was bad. I went to the properties for the sound card, and went to voice then I used the voice test to get the music to play through the computer. I have tried to use the line in jack on my computer to play the records, but have been unable to get the sound to play through the computer at all.
Are there some settings that I need to change to get this to work?

I have Easy CD creator 5 Platinum. for my sound program.

This may help with setting up your monster for line in recording. you will need to copy the whole line or just go to http://www.diamondmm.com and click the faq on the opening page. Most sound card's with a midi port will need to be configured a little through the properties it seems most are set up for system mixer or midi by default when you install them or window's sets it's own. Also alot of computers come with onboard sound that is usually covered up by a piece of crome tape or something like that and disabled. When you install recording software it picks up both of them and also the system mixer. You can go to the properties and make sure that it says that your monster card is your prefered device for playback and that it is also the prefered device for recording. As stated window's will most often set this at system mixer or midi. Then you will have to find some other tab that show's your line, mic, modem, ect and select line. The web site seems to have alot of info on it to get you started setting up the properties for recording.
