Talent contests require that performances be only 2 minutes. I need to remove a verse from a digital cd in order to comply. Any suggestions on the easy/best way to do this? I have minimal equipment - CD burner.

What you can do is download a WAVE editor program:
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_RECORDING/
That's a list of a bunch of free/trial versions. Open up the file in the program. Then you need a good ear and meticulous editing technique. You want to find exactly where the verse starts that you want to remove. Zoom in all the way until you are as close as you can get to the wave form. Then you want to begin the selection right along the zero crossing line, this way you don't get any loud annoying pops. Select the entire verse through the last beat and cut it along the zero crossing again at the end. Remove the selection, and if your program doesn't automatically shuffle the leftside to the rightside, you'll need to align them up manually. Make sure you listen to it and don't notice any pops when it transfers over to the next section. Also, make sure you get the beat the same. It'll sound weird if the new section doesn't start immediately on beat one. You'll hear it if you did it wrong. Hope this helps.
