How do I restrict my input to a certain DB?

Hi guys,
During recording, how do I get CEP to record at a given DB, say,
-3db? So that any input doesnt exceed 3db.

I don't think this is possible. You'll need an outboard limiter. But why don't you just use the limiter/compressor in CEP after the recording ?

What version of CEP are you on? If your on v2.0 you could try using a realtime track effect. Just insert a compressor/limiter in the input chain (on the recording track), or just a limiter if you want dynamics to remain intact. Then set it to limit to -3db and you should be good to go.

Okay, I'll find out this weekend when I do it myself, but does 2.0 apply effects to tracks while they're being recorded?

We had a recent thread in which people like me were saying they thought you could only effect a track in playback.

You can only effect a track during playback...not during recording...

After you recorded your wave and while you are still in the multitrack view turn the volume of the wave up or down to which you need it and then by setting the volume you can control the db which it can go up to

Hmmm... I guess that may be true.

I was under the impression that real time monitoring was also getting put to the track, but I guess not if it is well, monitoring! Ooops. Cart before the steam engine I guess. LOL!

Welp, the only other way I have had success restricting the input level was to set it in the input side, meaning at the mixer (or mixer control of the card) so that the input only gets the level I want to record at. If you want compression or limiting of the signal then an outboard device may be the only way to get it.
