how do i record acoustic guitar?

ive tried recording my acoustic guitar, but it seems that when i playback, it sounds like it doesnt have enough HIGH and MID EQ. Definitely when I EQ up the sound clip, it sounds better. but my point is how do i record my guitar better without using or processing any effects like EQ?

my acoustic guitar is Ibanez
my mic is SHure SM58 (its a vocal mic, maybe i have to use an instrument mic)
my preamp is Roland MMP-2
 
I've also experienced the same problems and here is what I've learned from asking around here. Proximity effect: Try to record a couple feet (give or take some) away from the guitar (find the sweet spot) and aim the mic at the 12th fret. Also, you can get a parametric EQ with shelving to raise the frequencies. The sm58 should work fine for instrument recording, but I have never used one, so...experiment with what you have and see what works.
 
To reiterate: a different mic can make a world of difference. Dynamics like the SM58 don't have the impulse (transient) response of a condenser, because the mass of the diaphragm (& attached coil) slows the response/recovery time. If you can't get your hands on a condenser, you can put a new set of strings on, and spend some time with mic positioning to control the proximity effect. It own't be perfect, but should be better.
