How do I make VHS feedback

How do I make VHS feedback like this? Already have a VCR, VHS camera, and don't want to deal with any bullshit digital after effect programs. I need to make videos sort of like this so I could like, hook it up to a projector and bask in it's analog glory.

That feedback is done by looping through a video mixer, no camera involved. I'm betting the delay added by the frame syncing is a big part of that effect.

But you can make more dramatic video feedback with a camera and a video monitor. Connect your camera to a TV or other video monitor, point the camera at the monitor and you'll get feedback.

If you use an older tube TV the effect is different from using a newer flat screen. Anything that adds delay to the signal will alter the feedback effect. Different angles, zoom settings, exposure settings etc. will affect the results. With some settings you can get the TV's agc oscillating which makes the image flash like a strobe.

I'm guessing that the cheaper and older your gear is, the more pronounced the distorting effects will be. That video gets a pretty clean result generally, but at some of the more extreme zooms gets some of the weird colors and who knows.

VomitHatSteve's video shows the basics...just point your camera into a monitor showing the camera output and go from there.

A couple of hints...

First, for the completely abstract view you want, zoom in so you don't get the edges of the monitor or any screen display captions in frame.

Once you've done that, introducing even a minor tilt will start things going funny, as will gradual zooms in and out and racking in and out of focus.

As the video shows, putting any kind of object, preferably coloured, briefly in frame can set things off nicely.

Once you have things moving with some combination of tilt, zoom and object the feedback will tend to keep going by itself but you can trigger changes by changing one of the settings.
