how do i get that special finished cd sound?

finished mastering, finished mixing down. now, why isn't what i hear in the monitors what i hear on the cd after i burn it? i'm using digital performer, bias peak and itunes to mix, normalise and burn, respectively. any ideas? sounds great until i burn the cd. then it gets a hollow sound...thanks in advance.

Question: Are you applying any post effect between mixdown and burner?
You might (and I emphasise "might") want to add some compression and/or limiting in your mixdown. Works for me!!

I have a general idea, but what exactly is compression? What does it do? I have Cakewalk GS2 and haven' seen or read about any compressor plug in, is a stand alone type device?
