How do I get rid of annoying room resonance? I need some help.

Hey folks,

I'm using KRK rp5's and when I hear something that has a frequency around 123 Hz, the sound gets super loud and I can hear it all around me.
I know its my room, but I don't know how to fix it. I've looked at bass traps from Auralex, but I'm not even sure what they what they do and if they can help me.

Can you help me with this?

Does it change if you move. Your listening position might possibly be in a Peak. Move frontwards and backwards to see if it changes. Can you post a scaled plan of your room showing your listening position and the room dimensions?

Matt,

You must trap your room. The foam 'bass' traps from Auralex do work but have their limitations. You can build your own traps using rock wool, rigid fiberglass, or even rolls of attic blanket. But you must have adequate trapping in your room for LF damping. If your room is small (less than 1500 cubic feet or 42 cubic meters) you will need even MORE trapping. There are articles on my publications page that you may find helpful - read "Room Acoustics Design and the Frequency-Power Spectrum"... eh, read all of them! Enjoy.

Next you'll need to treat reflection points, etc, etc.

Good luck!
Cheers,
John

Have you shoot a frequency analyzer in your room? Are you sure that it's 123Hz?

Some elaboration is required.

Room dimensions and gear layout would be helpful, but essentially you need to treat the corners to get a handle on the LF.

haha... good one.

A; put it to work for you. ;)

Like I said, I coudn't resist..it was a joke waiting to happen.:)

But all kidding aside, this seems as good as anytime to pin down some things John. Although I don't want to do it on this thread. So as soon as I get my questions formulated, I'll start a thread. Some research is in order first though.
