I'm looking into to getting one of the M audio keyboards that has the eight pads on it to trigger drum samples and loops. Once I have the keyboard, where do I get the samples and how do I put them on the keyboard? And also, can I take drum beats I made in pro tools and use them as well? How would I do that?

Thanks for any help with this guys, really appreciate it!

I could be wrong, but I think each of those pads has a MIDI note assigned to them. Once you find out what note each pad is assigned to, depending on your DAW, you should in some way be able to drag samples from a folder into a visual representation of a keyboard. All you have to do is make sure you drag the samples onto the right keys on the keyboard corresponding with the note the pad has assigned to it.

What DAW are you using? I might be able to give you more specific instructions if you tell me

You will never be able to "put them on the keyboard". You can only use the keyboard as a controller for something else, it does not make any sounds..

If you want to trigger samples, you will need sampler which can be software or hardware.

I'm using pro tools. I've looked into the Akai MPD24. Any thoughts on that as a sampler?

Its not a sampler, its a midi trigger...I liked it, when I say liked it its because it makes Ableton Live hang on start up, so it spends most of its time disconnected now..check for any problems with pro-tools

also dont attempt to update the firmware, many are bricked during this process
