How do I do this?

Of all the softsynths in sonar I use the edirol vsc the most(I know I'm boring)what I'd like to know is....
is there some kind of way to scroll through the patches in the gs mode without having to reopen the vsc menu every time?
I've tried the track patch/bank boxes but I'm either not doing it right or thats just not the way to do it.
What I'm doing is scrolling through the patches as the song plays to preview sounds in the context of the song.This is done easily with the other synths and my keyboard.

It works for me using Sonar 1.31. I just started a new project using the default 4-track project. I added the VSC as a DXi instrument to an audio track, closed the VSC, and sent a MIDI track to the VSC. I then dropped down the Bnk list in the MIDI track and picked one of the nine available banks. All of the patch names then showed up in the Pch drop-down list for that MIDI track.

I've already gotten that far with the vsc the problem is all the banks listed as gs variations are not true representations of the instrument set in the vsc,that is they contain some but not all of the instruments.
I could try every bank,I'm wondering if maybe there is a instrument definition that would contain all the patches in the vsc?

I may be stating what u already know, but this is what I do.

1) Open synth rack button and select edirol
2) Mark any midi tracks you wish to use that synth by marking the number to the left of where it says midi channel. The number goes blue. Add other midi tracks with ctrl key plus click as before.
3) Go to track/property/outputs and pull down edirol (this selects edirol for all the blued out tracks)
4) start playback and go to a midi track
5) Double click on yellow midi connector sign getting up track properties.
6) click in patch box and use arrow keys to move between patches.
7) If only patch number comes up (not instrument) click on bank select and select bank then u will see all the correct instruments in patch box.

I might be misunderstanding, but here's my take: I've built a number of SoundFonts that have multiple instrument variations in different banks. For example, Bank 0 has all 128 standard GM instruments, but Bank 1 has only some of them like an alternate EPiano1 and EPiano2. There isn't a different accordian, but there is an alternate Finger Bass. And so forth, through Bank 9 which has only a few alternates.

This is exactly what I see when I set the VSC to one of the higher banks and drop down the Pch list. Yes, the bank may have GM in its name, but that's not a promise to include yet another variation in every single patch location.

Does this make sense, or are you saying there are instruments shown but the patches don't correspond? Or something else?
