Say i have a bassline audio clip which is sits mainly in the higher bass frequencies (400-500hz), i want to be able to create a new track with the same bassline audio clip and change the pitch so that i can lower it an octave and have it playing at the same tempo just filling out the low end below the original bassline clip...

I guess this would also be handy if i wanted to pitch it up an octave and have it playing the same speed/tempo and the original bassline audio file....

I use Logic pro 8....

Look through all your plug-ins and see if Logic has any pitch-shift plugins. I'm not familiar with logic so I couldn't tell you. If it does, then copy the bass track, and put the pitch-shifter on the copied track and set it down an octave. Some pitch-shift plugins tend to produce latency, so you might have to nudge the copied track back so that when the latency is added, the two tracks line up perfectly.
