I just want to do a very simple recording using my Computer.

I want to be able to record a SOUND (song) that is playing on my CD-ROM and MY VOICE (through the microphone jack) at the same time.

The problem I am running into is that, I can only select one to have my PC record from. If I choose the sound from CD-ROM, it doesn't pick up my voice on the mic and vice versa.

How do I fix this? Do I need to get a new soundcard that will pick up both? Help please......

You have to route the sound through a mixer of some kind. List the equipment you are using so it can be determined if you can do it or not.

See the vol icon at the right hand bottom coner. Right click it and open it.Goto option>property>tick recording>tick what u hear>ok> select, what you hear. Good luck

What BadAE says is on the ball if you have't any other gear, software etc.
PLease note that recordings made through a bog standar soundcard mic in will be pretty rough & you'll have problems with levels etc against the input from the CD - you can adjust levels of input in the same recording dialogue box you select what you hear from. Are you using the standard wave recorder? I think that plays stereo but only appears as mono in record mode.
have fun but don't expect too much.

I don't have any special mixer or equipment.

I use my CD-ROM to play the song from my CD.

I use the MIC to input my voice (like I am singing along).

I use Audacity to record.

The problem I have is that I can only select ONE source (input) to record. It's either the song from my CD or my voice from the MIC.

I want to do both at the same time, is it possible? If so, how or what would I need to do?

I've done that and tried playing around by changing the settings, but as mentioned previous, I can only select one source (input) to record. I would like to be able to record a sound from both my CD (played through my CD-ROM) and my voice (input in the MIC slot).

Help please

Another option is to import the track from the CD to Audicity. then you can record your singing on track two while track one is playing. Give it a try.

Oh...great idea!!! Let me try that ... :o
:D  :)

Infact that is a better option cos you then can eq and add efx to the vox without affecting the backing.
