How do i BulkSend to Logic in a standard MIDI file from a YAMAHA keyboard?

I own a non-professional (though very cool!) YAMAHA DJX keyboard that I recorded a really cool 5 track song idea onto. I am presuming that the keyboard internally records its own MIDI rather than actual audio (being that it only cost me like $300 seven years ago), but how do I get the MIDI out of it so that I can further work my idea from within Logic?

I tried to re-record the parts within a Logic sequence but I couldnt seem to recapture/reprogram the raw performace, the drum performance in particular.

My YAMAHA DJX manual describes how it can do a Bulk Send which sends all of its performance presets and user songs to what they say can be "a sequencer, computer, or MIDI data filer" (YAMAHA made something called the MDF3 MIDI data filer, though since I haven't heard of these things I'm guessing their purpose is mainly obsolete today).

Anyway, how do I make Logic accept the Bulk Send and display/play it back as what we all know as a MIDI file?

With just my default MIDI template loaded in Logic, I launched the Bulksend on the DJX and the only response from Logic during the bulksend that I saw in Logic was on the Transport window where it normally displays "No In." That message just kept blinking from and back to "X1 67 115" during the DJX's BulkSend. Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks so much! =) Happy New year!

What your DJX is sending is not a standard midi file but rather a proprietary Yamaha Systems Exclusive file. What you detail seeing on both the keyboard and the computer are both normal SysEx file transfer procedures, and that's also what you're finding in the manual.

If the DJX has the capability to transmit midi clock you can transfer the sequence in real time by making the DJX the master and putting Logic in external clock mode. It may transfer all the tracks together as a single track and then you'll need to separate them by channel.

Be sure you take off any 'quantize on input' features if you want to retain the feel of your groove.
