I'm SO confused. I read a lot of people's ideas and product info on the web. I don't know if these companies are just trying to push product or what... Everybody got their own theories. I need someone who HAS DONE IT - AND IT SOUNDS GREAT (or quiet for that matter)...

What I need is for someone WHO HAS BUILT GREAT SOUND PROOF WALLS to explain THEIR method:

1. What types of layers
2. how many layers
3. sheetrock thickness
4. did they use plastic in between layers
5. did they use sound deadeners - and if so - what kind?
6. Any info on Homasote
7. Some say that you'll get the same STC rating using multiple layers of 5/8" rock...

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

- Brad

it is gonna take a lot more than just thick sheetrock. Construction methods are very important, like building double walls. Did you plan on that? anyway, just for your questions, heres what I did, ALONG WITH GOOD CONSTRUCTION METHODS......................

1)sheetrock
2) 2 on each side
3) double 5/8 inch on one side, 5/8 and 1/2 on the other
4) no, that stuff isnt proven to work, and if you build your wall right, you wont need it
5) nope
6) Dont use homosote. regular drywall is better for this, becuase of its density
7) I dont understand this question

EDIT>>>>>> GO TO WWW.JOHNLSAYERS.COM and read everything. then read everything at least 3 or more times.

1. Did this method of NOT using sound-deadener board and just using double rock work for you to block out the sound?

2. If someone is on the other side of the wall and yells - will you hear them?

3. If someone is on the othe side of the wall playing guitar - will you hear them?

4. Please explain YOUR methods of "proper building construction".

5. Usin gyour methos of double layer rock, what kinds of STC ratings do you get?

Thanks So Much for your help/time.
