How do I add effects?

I'm pretty new to recording. I think I kinda know, but how does the fx send input/output(?) work on a mixer? I have a behringer EuroRack mixer and i thought that was how you added reverb and effects to tracks without having to have multiple effects modules, but i dont see how only one input/output would be capable of doing that and i figured it would require an fx send and fx return to do so, or maybe I'm just a complete newb and I don't know what I'm talking about. Any kind of explanation would be great. Thanks.
