I play the guitar as my primary instrument and bass guitar as secondary. If drum machine counts, then I play a drum machine too. I think it is easier to learn a bass after learning the guitar or the other way around.
Again out of interest, how many instuments do you play? It is certainly easier to pick up playing other instuments once you can play one I think. The only problem may be that you don't dedicate enough time to say the guitar and jeopardise your potential ability. I play:
Guitar
Harmonica
Drums
Some vocals
But not the drums at the same time, unless I'm on something. I can play piano and bass a bit as well but don't put much emphasis on these. What do you play and any opinions on the subject at all?
I play the bass... and... well.. erm.. the bass. I used to (several years ago) play the trombone and so could probably get back into that if I really tried. I think it is easier to make the transition from guitar to bass than vice versa. Only thing I can play on guitar is the intro to Under The Bridge...
I play guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, banjo, keys (just learning), sing, trumpet and like brass.
I haven't stuck with the brass, but the others, with the exception of guitar, came from having songs and a 4track and nobody to play with. Problem with it is, like you said, that it keeps me from being really good at any of them.
I play:
Guitar primarily
Bass sort of
Drums I can keep good time but thats it
Keys sort of I know enough to play on my cds
Trombone(he said bone)but I really suck.
and I play the triangle and spoons(he he).

Bass player by nature;
Guitar
Keys
Drums
Some Sax
Some Trumpet
Tried the violin, no luck.
Cannot sing to save my own mothers life!
Play a pretty mean game of basketball!
I play lead guitar mainly, then rythem guitar, Bass pretty good, Drum machine (yeah it counts), broke my voice in for a while then lost it again, dabble with keys, tiny bit o' marlboro harmonica, a mean sterio(you should hear me in the car)
I play bass in my Irish band, and in church. For fun I play guitar, and a little mandolin. I also enjoy all types of percussion, and an occasional romp with a jew's harp.
I started out at 18, strumming acoustic guitar to accompany songs. Then I picked up BASS at 20 and have enjoyed playing it since (4 years). Having an electric guitar lured me into playing LEAD and I really like it, except I'm not great on it, but, then again, I'm not great on anything, just trying to learn and have fun. I also wish I could play various picking pieces better, I just never bothered to learn any.
Always wanted to play drums since our first band formed (me on bass) 3 years ago, but I could only get my drumset 3 months ago. I'm a beginner, but I play fairly well, I play drums in a jazz band now.
I think it's great to play many instruments, if you have the time/money. It's just a must if you're recording and it helps to find bands to play with, if you equally like the instruments, like I do. If I had all the time I needed and didn't have to go to work, I'd learn every instrument I could get my hands on. Piano would be great - that's like latin of the instruments
I play guitar and bass on all my home recordings and I do the vocals as well. I also program drums with a little known (or perhaps well known) twist. I like my programmed drums to sound like drums (as opposed to bands like KMFDM who like them to sound like machines) so after I have the drum part programmed, I take out the hi-hat and play a mic'd hat myself. If you have good drum samples, the real hat will make the kit sound a lot more convincing.
