Hi everyone,

I write music using Cubase 4 and use EMU-1616m as sound card and recording device. But I know nothing about recording. The one who used to take care of that is unavailable for an indefinite period of time. The drummer who works with me has moved and can no longer come to my house to record the midi tracks of his beats from his drum machine every time we need to. He has Cubase 4 now but doesn't want to buy the EMU- 1616m if he can avoid it. So we thought about: EMU Xmidi 1x1 USB MIDI Interface, which is much cheaper. We could then go through the usb port of the sound card from the PC itself if that would work.

Here is my question: Can we record the midi tracks from his beats first through this device, and then right after record the audio tracks like we normally do with EMU-1616m. Or is it not meant for this application? Then he could just send me the CD by mail and I would transfer the midi and the audio of his beats in my own Cubase.

Thanks

Can you clarify what you are asking there? That reads like an 80s Roland manual...

actually I just want to know if I can record on cubase4 through that device. Because it only has 2 midi wires, I'm wondering whether I can record audio tracks as well as midi tracks on Cubase. Or will EMU Xmidi 1x1 USB MIDI Interface record at all?Can we record through a MIDI interface. I could not find any explanation on this and frankly I don't know anything about recording . I'm really just trying to find a way to use the actual sound card of the PC to record through on Cubase, without having to buy EMU-1616m digital audio system.
