Need more info, recording software, computer configuration.ECT then we can help.

Well you need a recording software package, the good free ones are Audacity and kystal audio engine (do a google search) If you are wanting to take it off of a CD then you need a CD ripper (do a google search) which takes the .cda file on the CD and turn it into a wave file for you to import into recording software. Then you can burn CD's (if you have a burner and software).

yeah~
but I also want to use the record feature for programs like instan messangers

are you talking about AIM?

If you're using Windows, you should be able to (in most cases) start your 'Sound Recorder' application (%SystemRoot%\System32\sndrec32.exe). This usually picks up things thru either a mic, or what is being sent to the 'out' of the soundcard. I just did this the other day.

You probably want to record from the "What-U-Hear" sound source. Most modern soundcards have it.

You first have to tell us what recording softare you're using. Goldwave? Soundforge? Audacity? Etc?

Total recorder will do that. It sets itself between the output mixer and the soundcard and records anything that can be outputted to your speakers.

If you would use linux, then jack does this very well...
