I didn't find much info on the Boss BR-8 except a review. What kind of microphone input does it have? XLR (3 pin/holes)? 1/4" line-in (Like a guitar cable)? Does it have phantom power? If not, you'll need an external phantom power supply, you can get these for around $30 or so.

Congratulations on the AT2020 it's a great vocal mic.

Is this the unit?

http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/en/BR-8/

I do believe it has been discontinued, especially seeing as it records to Zip disks

In any event, according to this page, if this is the unit you have, the unit itself does not have XLR connections. It has balanced TRS inputs for "mic inputs" 1 & 2. I am assuming in that case that you will need a 1- or 2-channel preamp of some sort (depending on whether you will ever be recording one or two tracks, up to you).

What I am confused about is the fact that the unit has two line inputs, each an unbalanced RCA connector, and then it has what it calls "mic inputs", but they are balanced 1/4" TRS inputs. Does this mean you can plug a mic in using a XLR->TRS cable, and if you don't need phantom power, and use some sort of preamp? Not sure yet, I'll do some more poking about.

GUITAR/BASS jack = -10 dBm, MIC 1, 2 jack = -40 dBm, LINE jack = -10 dBm

Okay, according to this, you would most likely not need a preamp plugging into the mic inputs. You do, however, need phantom power supplied to your mic from some external source, and then you need an XLR-to-TRS cable to hook the output of a phantom power supply to the mic input.

Thats what I figured...and I was right....All I need is the power supply pack with phantom power.....Ill just run from the Boss Mic input and xlr to trs to the Power Pack and hook the at2020 to the output side of the power supply pack....Right?....

Thanks to all yall guys Im here to learn and all yall fellaz helped me out....I apreciate that...........Real Talk....B.Kster...

Im going to go buy that Phantom Power Supply ASAP....lol...Thanks

Ill use the power pack until I get that Firewire M-Audio 410 for starters...

Okay, so if you were to use something like this:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Phantom3/

...you would need a standard mic cable (female XLR <-> male XLR) to connect the mic to the power supply, and then a cable with (female XLR <-> male TRS 1/4") for connecting the output of the phantom box to the "mic" input of the BR8.
