hi--

if i am recording a group of 4 vocalists at the same time, how can I have the playback from the soundcard output to four different sets of headphones? can i just split the signal with three y-splitters? if not, does anyone have a cost-effective (cheap...) way to do this? thanks.

I have the Rolls headphone box.4 pairs of phones can be used each with its own volume control.I think it was $40-50.Musicians Fiend or Guitar Sinner should both carry this item.

Trying to use 3 or 4 sets of headphones off of the same headphone amp will only make each pair of headphones receive less volume each, and has the potential of blowing out your headphone amp.

A distributed headphone amplifier like described above is the best solution. It actually has a seperate headphone amp for each headphone output and will deliver much cleaner power to each set.

If you want to get fancier, and have the ability for each person to create their own headphone mix, you should check this bad boy out! http://www.riksmusic.com/oz_audio/hm6.htm .They are actually asking more for this unit than I paid for it 4 years ago, but you can look around for a better price. This is the Cadillac of headphone mixers! :D

Its more than I remembered (or they raised the price). The Rolls HA43 stereo headphone amp sells for $79 from the Fiend. As Ed says,it sure beats the y-cord route.
Furman has a $200 unit but the Rolls is decent sound quality (and loud!) in a small steel box.
