Is there any type of software that will let me apply effects/reverb as Im recording? (As opposed to adding it/editing it in later) Like real-time enhancement is maybe what Im looking for. HELLLLPP!Thank You...Andrea

Well.

The only reason i could see you wanting to do this is if youre computer werent strong enough to handle using real time effects on an insert.

Assuming this is the case i would go out and upgrade the ram in your computer.

If this isnt the case and you just want live effects to be printed as part of the final product?

Thats sounds like a job for hardware. Not software.

heh so i guess my answer is "No you cant" :D

EDIT>

I suppose you could bring the audio in on an Aux track with the chosen effect in place on the insert, then bus the Aux to an armed audio track, and do it that way.
You might get some latency issues, but it would be worth a try.

Ain't doing efx 'live' more RAM demanding?

I suppose it could be.
But we still havent figured out if thats the issue.
That was just an assumption on my part dude.

remember to keep in mind if you record it with verb on it's stuck with verb on, you can't remove it. That being said, I'm guessing you probably just wanna "hear" a bit of verb on a vocal as you record it dry to enhance the performance. If you are, I find I get better results from singers if I add a short and small amount of delay during the performance rather than adding reverb.

So theres no simple like voice 'morphing' program that will just respond to my voice or any sound coming through the mic, with a 'dynamics' reaction or an echo at it? Did Ilose you there? Im trying to make sense and keep it simple when I know the simplest way is to add effect afterward but I need to send a live recording on-line and thats where I am stuck. It robs me of a better presentaion..I know it can be done because I heard the girl who preformed live yesterday..she was able to do her song live ,in real-time, and she had some kind of sound dynamics that sounded studio quality. So...sorry for the LONG STORY.... but I assumed someone's gotta know what software shes got going on. THX ALL! Andrea

My programs wont give me the option to add any effect to...or through the mic on my PC, only when Im finished with my recordings can I then edit effects or enhancements to my recording then I save it and thats about it. BOOOHOOO, I have hope....there's some kind of software or somethin'...eh? no? THX Andrea  :o

A very little use recording program that come with SBL card will do it dude.

I dont know about other tracking programs, but...

Sonar has a "input echo" button when tracking. Its only there when you record, not the finished product.

Well, assuming that you want the effect(s) for the sake of coddling the performer, and not to print to the recording itself -

A send from your preamp to some effects device and into the headphones would do the trick.

I am a bit confused on your explanation of the girl you heard perform. was it a live recording or her playing in real time? a recording or a broadcast....if it is a broadcast then what program are you using to broadcast over the internet? ive jammed over AIM and yahoo messenger before with just a mixer running into my computer ( a shure mic and a 300 dollar acoustic guitar ) /get a cheap mixer with a half decent preamp and perhaps some DSP effects and you are set. i know peavey and samson make a couple in the 99 dollar range ( i think they are 6 tracks. ) but then again it depends what hardware and software you are already using and how SERIOUS of a performance this is. ( is it just you and a guitar? or a full band? ) If you arent recording just broadcasting then i would recommend using hardware instead of software because if you were to try using like sonar or something and using echo and effects and all of that AND whatever program is actually broadcasting this performance it may cause your comp to take a dump in turn making your performance sound like Sh*t anyway. (depending what kind of RAM and CPU you have)

If you just want to record something live, then turn on the effects in your program (sonar, cubase, audition etc etc. ) and record. If it bogs down your comp too much then either use a hardware procesor or upgrade your ram. (make sure that your comp is optimized for audio as well, operating systems tend to rob you of a LOT of juice if you arent careful. Im sure the wonderful people here on the BBS have a thread dedicated to that somewhere. search around. )

Then again this is all just my own idiotic opinion :D and maybe i am not even close to helping you. good luck

I use a PIII 1GHz with just under a gig of ram and can just about squeeze enough real-time effects out of it as I require. Every effect I use requires more CPU usage, so my guess is that CPU is just as important if not occasionally more so, than memory. Admittedly my computer is around five years old now, and its make is Bonsai. I know what you're all thinking. Who the f*** are Bonsai? I know....heheh, I'd never heard of them either.
