How can I add blank space to recording if I've cut them off already?

A lot of times when I finish recording something, if a little riff comes in every once in a while in a song, I cut off the extra space so it won't interfere with other tracks. So, how do you add almost an entire track's worth of space to a track that was cut off?

I plan on posting tracks from a song so someone can mix it for me for comparison so I need the tracks to be lined up from the beginning.

Thanks!

If I understand what you are asking you could select the blocks you want to mix, make sure that tracks they are on are panned at 0 and vol at 0, then while they are still selected right click on an empty track and choose mix down selected wavs (either mono or stereo)

The selected wavs will be mixed down as a new wav on that track. If I remember coreectly, the length of the wav will be determined by the furthest edges of any wav on the multitrack screen.

That sound confusing, I hope this helps.

Consolodating tracks like this is one of the things that CEP makes difficult. You basically have to re-create every track so they all have the same starting point. I have learned the hard way that it's best to create something of a kind of basic block size with the first tracks you record. Don't trim them even if the song starts a few seconds in. Then when any overdubbs are completed, mix them down to a wav that is this basic block size.

That way all your wavs are a uniform length. It flies in the face of keeping file sizes down and keeping a neat session but if any kind of transfer to another DAW might happen, you are prepared.

I think Stuntmxer has suggested the easiest way. I hate this about Cool Edit, so unless I have to, I start all my tracks at the beginning. I know there's a place-marker for punch-in points, maybe you could create some of these and then start some of the later tracks here.

You could always find out how late you want the track to start, and add that much silence in editor view.
