I never tried singing all my life until about 2 months ago, and I am still pretty rough. I still fall out of key pretty often, well alot. Just listen to this clip of me singing part of norweigan wood, and tell me besides working on pitch which is my most obvious flaw, what else I can do to improve.

Do you think I will ever be able to have a good singing voice, or am I doomed to be just one of *those* people who can't sing?

NOTE : The frog voice at the end is a joke, not part of what i'm asking about.

I would say that you definitely have a nice timbre of voice with lots of potential!

My advice would be to get voice lessons. We don't use our voice to sing as we do when we talk and we've been talking since we were 2 years old which tells you there there is a lot to 'unlearn' when it comes to singing - resonace placement, throat pressure, breath support, and so forth.....

If you want to get better at anything - get some expert training and practice, practice, practice!

I will give you one tip. Place your two index fingers under either side of the Adam's Apple and sing. One of the most common mistakes by beginners is to force air through the larynx by using the throat muscles. If you feel yourself tightening up there - pinch yourself (just kidding) but recognize that that is bad. Try now to replicate the same tone while keeping the throat completely relaxed.

Now Kurt Cobain et al. still use throat pressure to make their screaches nasty, but you probably don't need to that or if you do, don't do it often and only if you know what you are doing...

On a second listen. I would also try to move your voice to your chest and/or head. Your mostly singing out of your mouth I think. Ultimitately you want to blend in the three resonances to give you better voice control and a more complex tone (chest/throat, mouth, and head(soft pallete actually))...

thanks for the response!! That is the stuff I want to hear!!
Yea...Money is pretty lacking so voice lessons are a no no.
