I am computer illiterate and need step by step instructions on how to burn my downloaded mp3s so that the cd onto which I burn them will play on my truck stereo. I have been told something about wav and decompressing but I just don't get it. Is someone willing to simply provide the magic formula (or am I being naive in thinking it is that simple)? Conveniently, the user's guide to my cd burner only showed how to install the unit, nothing about how to use it! Thank you for any help you may provide.

here's how i do it:

1 - convert the mp3 files into wav format using a program called mp3decode. you can find programs similar to this at www.webattack.com or maybe even at www.downloads.com

2 - once the mp3 are converted i stick a black cd-r in and a screen pops up asking me what i want to do (open, burn, nothing)

3 - click "burn" and follow what it says.

mind you i typically only burn about 12 songs at a time when i do this. if you're looking to get over the set limit of minutes you'll need to burn as a data cd, but know that when you do this odds are it won't play in your car

I don't know why--this far into the mp3/burning craze--people still insist on decoding the mp3s and then burning the decoded .WAVs... TOOO MUUUUCH TIIIIIIME! Not to mention too complicated for most newbies who don't understand the whole thing... Check it out... I suggest this to at LEAST one person a week at my work.

1) Go to http://www.musicmatch.com and download a kick-ass program called Multimedia Jukebox. This puppy will play, organize, rip (read the songs from your CD to put on your hard drive to add to your MP3 collection on your comp), and burn your CDs, all in one spiffy package. The demo version is restricted to reading at max at 2x off of the CD, and encoding at max of, uh, 128k/sec mp3s. I don't use any more than that, personally, no noticeable difference between that and 160k/sec, just bogs your comp more. Anyways.

2) Install program. Easy. Configure for system. Easy again.

3) Put in serial key you purchased or otherwise obtained for unlocking full version. If you haven't gotten one, don't worry.

4) Open MP3s into top playlist (the one with Open, Clear, Play, and CD-R or something as options). Organize order for playlist.

5) click CD-R button. Go through options. Once again, easy.

6) Click "make CD" or similar button.

7) Wait.

8) Get pizza.

8) Wait some more (depending on comp/burner).

9) When it says it's done, it's done.

How's that? No decoding/whatever... Just all drag/drop operation. I dig it. Can YOU dig it?

Also, make sure you use CD-R's, not CD-RW's. Most car CD players are too finicky to play CD-RW's.

Most burners come with a copy of Easy CD Creator or Nero. Both allow you to burn right from MP3's. Just don't forget to Finalize the CD - otherwise it won't play in most CD players.

Aaaahhhhh yes... I forgot to mention using CD-Rs and not CD-RWs... however nowadays half the new players out on the market (whether car, home, bookshelf, portable, etc) can and will play them...
