I'm currently working on producing a few house tracks and I'm wondering if when it comes time to mix if i should jack up my bass frequencies so i can feel the bass drum and bass in my monitors or is this something that is done at the mastering level? I've tried both ways just to try listening to it in my car stereo and i feel no bass when i leave the levels zero'd on the mixer but when i jack them up a bit it's great. I just want to make sure that i leave some head room to bring up the bass when mastering time comes. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
T

Hey T, welcome to the board!:D

You should always try to get the mix sounding as good as you can regardless of whether it will be sent out for mastering or not. Personally I think a well set up pair of subs is a requirement for mixing dance music. You have tons of stuff going on down in that region and nearfields alone just won't cut it.

Be carefull with high frequencies. Especially with dance music that has to be played in clubs, you have to spare them. It is a typical way of mixing 'club edits': when there are to many bright frequencies in the track, thy can't put the volume as high as they want to.

Jack it. The ME will be some pussy who is afraid of bass anyway... so jack it NOW! make him thurn the bass DOWN!!
