Stand Up Comity
Target is blowing out some "autograph" guitars for less than a c-note. Could be fun for modding.

Please recycle. Pawn shops are full of lost toys for that kind of thing. The thought of the disappointment you'd get from one of those makes me feel yucky.

Thanks, APL.

BTW, I used my $75 used chinese squier strat on the gig last weekend. I used just that one. I also brought out my new Epi ES-295, which I ended up not playing because I was sweating like a dog shitting razor blades.

Modded Squier: Fender vintage bridge. Schaller tuners. Guitar fetish pickguard/pickups. Bad-assed strap and custom graphics.

Buying a squier made it really easy to drop in fender trem and pickguard. If it was some weird indonesian k-mart guitar, the banana-plywood might have rejected it.

My beef is generally with the thinner bodies. If it's a strat copy, I like for it to be deep enough to put in a standard fender-esque trem. Other than that, I am pretty open.

They're also selling something from Fender called a Starcaster...
When I looked at it, it doesn't look like a Fender or a Squier name on the headstock. The Hello Kitty ones I know are Squiers, but I thought that "bait and switch" was illegal business practice, since Target's advertising them as Fender Hello Kitty guitars, not Squier (by Fender). There's a store in Muncie, IN that advertises on a local (30 miles up the road) radio station, and does the same thing..."Fender guitars for $149.99!" But when ya get there (I looked at their web site), it's actually a Squier Affinity model.

the Starcasters say "Starcaster" on the peghead, then in smaller letters they say "by Fender" I saw one in a store here in town, they don't seem half bad for the money... I built my strat, from a Saga kit.

Well DUH on me!

I saw one, at a Target store in Indy, this evening. When I saw the "by Fender" in smaller letters, I flashed back to a mention of the Starcaster by Fender at the Surf Guitar 101 forums. Is 37 too young for CRS to be kicking in? :p

If it were me

I'd either get a Squier Bullet, or a 51, since they're both about the same price.

On the other hand, maybe you like the idea of modding a Target guitar.

I think you should do a Daisy Rock for your daughter, but it has to be one of the really cheesy ones that looks like a flower or something. :D

Sunburst '51s were on Overstock.com for $69 last week. The sunbursts are supposed to have the best wood out of the three colors.
