ok i am no newb to computers
have been using them for almost 14 years...
this problem eludes me though
i have two soundcards...
the Maudio phile
and the MIA

now in the last two weeks both cards have been acting up
i mean fucking up to the point its pissing me off now
im using acid 4 wavelab and cubase
at random times the channel will switch itself to the left or right
and the other will just turn off (im listening through my studio monitors)
at any time the volume will jump to the highest level the card can output
and scare the shit out of me and then i have to reboot
at any time the card(s) will freeze and a high picthced buzzing sound is heard
this is so fucked up i havent had any problems in a year with these two cards

i just formatted to clean up my computer a day ago and the cards are still doing this

the yes's
i checked for virus (none)
i have all the most recent drivers for everyhting
the soundcards outputs are all on

im using 98se

again i have changed nothing in my system config
and they have been working for a year flawlessly

the only thing i added
to my room which i cant see would fuck things up
but it may be is a router so my roomates can go online as well
for shits and giggles ill remove the thing
but i cant see how a router which is 10 feet away would do anything

if anyone has any feedback
i would really appreciate it

thanks all
peace

Occam's razor man. The simplest answer/solution is usually the correct one. You didn't change/add anything...except a router.

There's yer problem.

...

i removed the router from the room
(just wondering if you know what a router is?)
my initial thoughts were that perhaps some kind of interference was coming from the router perhaps messing with cards in some way (i know thats far fetched but it was the only thing i could think of (its actually most likely impossible since my router is magnetically shielded))...
but it turns out
i believe its actually the MIA card itself somehow
i am not totally sure
but i just formatted again.... (sigh)
and loaded XP up
and it froze again except this time with XP i could end the task
and it said my MIA control panel was not responding...
i just installed the most recent drivers for the card as well

im gonna search around the net some more to see if i can find something
but i figured id come here first as always

Maybe I don't know what a router is. I assumed it was some type of hardware interface so multiple machines can access one internet connection. Yes/No? I figured one of these things would have associated software. So this doesn't turn into a complete waste of time could you explain it to me? If I can't help I can always learn. :D Good luck.

....

thats right a router
is something that lets multiple computers online, but...
the software
is in the router itslef...
basically the software is the hardware
one gets to the internal software by typing in an IP
address in an open explorer window or whatever
(your accessing the router through this window)

so there is no software actually installed on my computer...
so the router actually has nothing to do with my problem...

Thanks for the explanation. I'll know better next time. :D

Good luck with your problem.

...

well i found out the problem was most likely acid 4....
some other guy on the acid forums
has a MIA as well and is giving him lots of trouble
so i guess i will wait for an update or whatever
peace all
