Hey.
When I try to play back my sound files, everything jutters...and help on this? There aren't that many processes running, only 44 I think.

Do you have multiple effects in real time on the tracks? That will usually slow down your playback...

if the sound is jittering when you playback certain files like a backing track that you imported, make sure that the tempo in Audition matches the tempo of the file that you imported

maybe your computer just cant handle the number of tracks you are trying to playback. I had this same trouble on a slower PC. Tell us your PC's specs. Do you have any trouble playing back one track? notice a little green bar that sits just to the left of your time bar across the bottom of the last track. When you play back your files...does that bar start pulling back rather quickly? If so...you probably dont have any problems until the bar is gone or mostly gone. That showes that you are using a lot of your rescources and that you may need to upgrade your RAM and maybe even your processor.

or is it this

Are you recording onto your computer's hard drive or do you have a separate hard drive for recording?

I'm not sure of the science, but if your recording a bunch of tracks using your computer's main hard drive your going to be limited on how many tracks you can run. I think it has something to do with the other software that your computer uses.

Try shutting down all programs (even wireless internet) or investing in another hard drive if your going to record multiple tracks.

A second hard drive is a plus when recording...playback shouldnt be an issue. The reason is because it is more effecient for your computer to run the software from one harddrive and write to the second rather than try to read and write to the same drive.

Are you recommending an external or an internal HDD? I'm using a laptop, however, I am afraid that a second HDD running through usb would cause my system to slow down while recording. Has anyone experienced this?

I am using an HP laptop with p4 with 2.8ghz and 1g of ram. I am also using a USP MAudio Mobile PRE.

Thanks for the help.

go for a Firewire harddrive if you can. I probabaly wouldn't worry about USB being too slow unless you were recording a ton of tracks at once which you obviously cant do with the M-audio that you have...i think its only 2 ins right? But either way...Firewire is the way to go if you are able to.

Did you say you were running 44 processes....Sorry if I miss understood but that is WAY to many...a typical computer should run at most 23 or 24 processes. Are you using your PC/Laptop for eveyday use...if so check for spyware...it caused my cool edit pro to slow down a bit.

I usually run anywhere from 35 - 40 processes.

Of course, Zone Alarm and Norton Anti-Virus account for like, 8 of them alone...
