OK, this one seems to be the killer, all-in-one, everything in one box deal of the decade. But from posts I've been reading in various places, it sounds like a royal pain to set up so everything works right & iron out the bugs. a monster package for the price if you want to tinker with it. Maybe the glitches will get worked out in newer versions. or maybe they will start shipping a free techie in the box.

what'chall think?

I have mine working with a via chipset and have no problems with the sound card part.

Do not buy it for the Mic pre-amps they are next to useless, Noisy poor gain and for some reason the rob the signal of any life?

The headphone driver is also pretty poor?

As a 8 in 8 out souncard it works very well and I use mine with a small mixer ( Berry MX802A) for Mic use with phantom power.

Going on two years with mine and it has not been any problems at all.I use the ASIO2 drivers.I have an Anthlon 1700+ with the via chipset,512 ddr and run Win98se.If you want a listen, here's the song I did last week...

Tom Hicks,
Was that recorded using the pre-amps that come with the c-port or using seperate preamps. Also what software are you using. Thanks Matt

Agreed about the pre's - no balls, noisy, flat, and sucky in general. I use an old 12 channel mixer with mine and it's beauteous.

I did have some troubles setting mine up at first, but many were due to my cheap-o PC's configuration problems. I've had it working with Win2k now for quite a while and it's been rock solid. I wouldn't trade it for the world - the routing options are perfect for how I like to work. I haggled it for $400 bucks out the door from my local guy.

Nice stuff there, Tom! I love the feel of the song - nice guitar work. Tasty!

Here's what mine sounds like (work in progress).

Matt- I did use the pres on channels one and two to amplify the backing tracks coming off my Roland keyboard (just not turned up too high!).When I do vox or other miced instruments,I use my audiobuddy pre. The guitars were S/PDIF off the j-station into the daughtercard.I used nuendo for tracking and mixing and CEP for mastering.

Seanmorse79- Beaucoup thanks for the kind words.

I found them better than my small stkpro mixer. Not so hard you might say.

But the first c-port I got had the 2nd XLR not working. I send it back to get a replacement. when I got it, I was over the moon. But after a week or so the 2nd XLR stopped working also. Bad workmanship. It came loose. I did not force anything.

I sent that one back today, and I am getting something else. Fortunately I get my money back.

Noone else had this problem? Only me?...

I am a bit sad about it, because the routing on that card is great, the clarity of sound too.

Could not study well with faulty material.

That's a total shame, and a total surprise. I've had no problems whatsoever with the product itself, only installation woes, thanks to a jacked up PC. I've used those XLR's a bunch of times with no problems whatsoever. I had spent some time on their tech support site, and don't recall seeing any workmanship related issues.

Now I use my mixer for plugging & unplugging so the C-Port's connections are stationary anyway.

My first Cport had to be returned with a faulty input on line 1.

When I first got my Cport I used it wth a Berry Mx2004a mixer, made myself 8 off cables to feed the insert sockets to the inputs of the Cport. I got results way above what we should expect for the money.
