Hello,

searching this forum I often read that the Hoontech ADCIII converters shall be the same as the converters from the ADC&DAC2000 (part of the c-point system).

hm, the ADCIII uses CS5396/97 Cirrus Logic Crystal ADCs (Dynamic Range 120dB), the c-point uses AKM AK4524 Codecs (100dB S/N ratio a-weighted).

So are these real the same converters?!

I was told that they were the same by Hoontech, retailers and reviews. This was a year ago though and maybe they have changed converters in the ADCIII.

re,
I posted my question to the hoontech-forum (http://www.staudio.com/service/qa.html), too, and got this answer:

"The adcIII uses crystal semiconducter converters which are rated at 120dBa S/N implemented the adcIII has a S/N ratio of 116dBa.

The adcdac2000 rack has AKM4524 converters and are rated at 108dba or the implemented s/n of 100dba .

Many companies will only advertise the s/n of the converter and not the whole signal path. I have listed both here.

The converters are very different as are the preamps and whole signal path. The ADCIII is much higher quality and will sound much more sonically truer than any unit using AKM converters."

...interesting ;)

Interesting indeed. I tried searching the Hoontech forum but the older messages seem to have be removed.

Has anybody used the software that ships with the c-port? Emagic track24 or something like that?

The C-Port comes with "Logic Studio 24" which is a stripped down version of Logic Audio - however it will only run on Windows 95 and 98 (no windows 2000 support) so I have been unable to try it out. From the screen shots and descriptions it appears to support 16 tracks at 24/96, so it would probably work fine. But I have learned that anything you get for free with a product (whether it be new hardware for your computer or what) typically is a stripped down castrated version.

I have a good friend who is a die-hard Logic user and is trying t get me to go back to windows 98 for it - HA! I really like windows 2000 and n-track....
