Thanks in advance for any assistance on this:) So I'm pretty much a noob making my first attempt at home recording so please try to keep responses simple hahaha

Ok, so I have come upon a LexiconMX400 effects processor and I want to be able to use it in my DAW.

Currently, my setup is as follows:
DAW- Reaper
Analog mixer- Behringer Xenyx 1202
Gutiar- Takamine Nex Acoustic Electric
Mic- Sure SM58 (I know not ideal but this is my next upgrade)
I'm still working on monitors.

What I'm trying to do right now is make a youtube video that has good quality sound. I've got everything figured out so that I can run the DAW in conjunction with the video recording software. I'm not trying to do multiple tracks. I just want to play the guitar and sing and be able to add a hair of reverb so it doesn't sound so dry.

While reading up on this, the manual says it recommends NOT using the rca in and outs together which was my initial plan. My secondary plan was to get a USB cord and run it right to the computer and try to dl a plug in but to be honest, I'm not 100 percent sure what this even means. Any help??

Thanks!!

yeah i remember that post.. I read it when I was researching mixers..I'm not sure how it applies to my question though..can you elaborate?

but how are you getting your sound from your desk into reaper?

I'm running it from the mixer via the rca out to the microphone jack on the computer. Again, I know- not ideal but i'm trying to work with what I got.

No the interface?? How are you getting sound transferred from your mic into reaper? Please dont say to the headphone jack in your computer? If it is tell me it sounds TERRIBLE!! Wait a min is this even possible?? Tell us exactly how you hooked this up I/O to I/O?

i meant mic jack.. not headphone...honestly the sound is pretty good. i think i'm runnin on a good soundcard....

ok well as I have said before, I know the set up is not ideal and it is a work in progress HOWEVER I still need to know the answer to my question which ultimately is: How do I get my lexicon mx400 to work in conjunction with my digital audio workstation (which is reaper).. I have the lexicon plugged into the computer via the USB cord but I don't know what else to do (software?) the other option is running the whole bus through the lexicon before sending it to the computer via the RCA out ...my signal path would be vocals&guitars into the mixer, then the whole signal out of the mixer and into the S/PDIF in jacks on the lexicon and then using a RCA to single cord to connect it into the mic jack of the computer.

If you are going from the mixer straight into your computer's soundcard, and you are not doing multi-tracking or overdubbing, you could get workable results. While PC soundcards are not designed specifically for audio recording, they can deliver reasonable results.

To use the MX400, you need to take an aux send from the mixer and go to the input of the MX400, then go from the output of the mx400 and feed into an aux return on the mixer. If the mixer doesn't have an aux return, then you need to use a spare channel (and hope that you have a spare).

thanks

ok. Would the cd/tape in rca jacks work as a return to the mixer? but then how would it get from the mixer to the computer, I have onlt one rca out...I have a control room L and R out but they're 1/4" plugs

The Xenyx 1204 has an Aux1 send. Use this to go from mixer to Lexicon.

I can't see that the 1204 has an aux return, so go from the Lexicon to either tracks 5/6 or 7/8 on the 1204. You can control the amount of reverb (or whatever) you want using the faders on the mixer.
