hooking these new monitors to my soundcard

ok, I just purchased a new pair of monitors: Alesis M1 Active MKII Powered

I'm really excited to start using them, but I have one question. I need to know how to hook these up to my soundcard. It might be as simple as plugging a 1/4" cable from one to the other, but as with most things I'm sure there's more to it than that. I'm using Cool Edit Pro to mix and my soundcard has "mic in" and "line in" inputs. The monitors are in the mail right now but I just want to make sure I know what to do once they arrive.

Any help?
 
You need to use the outputs, not the inputs.

If you only have a stereo out, you'll need a splitter and then an adapter from minijack to whatever (XLR or 1/4').
