Hooking Drum machine up to Computer??

I have a Boss Dr-770 that I have hooked up to my computer thru thru my Game/Joystick Port with a MIDI Cable. I was wanting to either run the Boss thru either Fruity Loops so I can sample some different sounds or either thru Cakewalk. I am now in the process of trying to configure the midi ports, channels so that they can communicate. Could somebody give me a hand on how this setup should be configured? Either with Fruity or Cakewalk. Thanks in advance..

On the 770 set it to slave in the midi command menu.Also set the midi channel to the number you want to use(typically 10).
In Cakewalk set the output of the midi channel to the proper port.Set the channel number to the same one as in your 770.

Make sure you have something in your midi pane or session drummer to trigger the drum machine.

Yes.
By the tone of your first post you probably only have one midi out put.What the name is I don't know.

You can also record drum patterns from the 770 into Cakewalk if you find it's easier for you to program on the machine.
The 770 can also be used to trigger sounds or record midi with.
 
Trigger sounds is what I am wanting to do. I have some drum samples on my computer that I am wanting to sample with using the Boss.

You can use the 770 to trigger the samples in Cakewalk.
