Hi
i have a tascam audio interface fire wire 1082 and i want to hook up a tascam 2516 - 16 channel recording console to allow me to record my band live from the board into my computer
i need advice on how to hook up the board to the interface
can i use a spidif calbe for this or do i need a patch bay to run in/out between units ?

thanks santini

Don't know about the 2516 unit, but if it has SPDIF jacks, yes you can run it through the firewire interface into your computer. You'll probably have to set one up as the slave and one as the master for clocking.

yes the interface has sdif in/out on the back ill go into the in and out on the board right ?
:)

Hi,

Well, we are talking about 2 very different items of equipment here:

The 1082 is a computer interface that has a mixer, with 4 xlr inputs, and 4 line inputs. I think you only get 8 analog inputs, to expand this you need another analog / digital interface to connect to the 1082 digital input.

The 2516 is an analog console designed originally to connect to analog tape recorders. It has individual outs on each channel and 8 sub group outs. It also has inline monitoring on each channel.

The ways to connect this:

Use the XLR inputs of the 1082 for 4 mics, connect 4 channels of the 2516 from the channel direct outs to the 4 line ins of the 1082.

Use the 2516 inputs and connect the direct outs to the 8 inputs of the 1082.

Use the 2516 inputs and route the 8 subgroups of the 2516 to the 8 inputs of the 1082. The advantage of this is that you can record more than 1 channel at a time to each analog input, but you can't remix them later, i.e drum mics (toms, overheads, etc) to 2 inputs, left and right.

Hope this helped.

And I always ask this, do you have a manual for the 2516? These consoles have interesting signal routing and midi mute / scene control, but you will need the manual to sort it out.

Cheers

Alan.
