Ok, i know they are probably shit guitars, BUT....damn they sure are fun.. I bought one just to hang on my wall to look at, and every time i look at it, it makes me smile and laugh out loud. before i hung it up, i plugged it in and played it. I really sounded and felt like a decent guitar.

the look of it is real metal looking with sharp points and lightning bolt head stock. it has a real twangy fender-ish sound due to the pickup being so close to the bridge, and through my hughs and kettner tube amp, it really sounds good. especially on the clean channel, with some chorus dialed in.

anyone else have any opinions on this brand of guitar ???? some of their les paul copies look nice. I know it wont be like the original, but as long as it plays decent, i would be happy.

opinions? comments? hands on experience ???

thanks

Then you spent your money wisely. ;)

Yeah, it's nice when you can pick up a guitar, bang the hell out of the strings, and not worry about breaking anything or knocking something out of whack. It's funny how you can spend big $$$ on a guitar that always needs tweaking, or you can spent "$" on a Hondo and the damn thing will will last forever no matter how much abuse yu throw at it. (or so it seems) :p

A friend of mine has a Hondo (Les Paul copy) which he bought years ago just to have something around for "other people to play." We all know how it is when you are jammin and someone who really can't play or is drunk wants to jam too, none of us want to hurt their feelings by saying "No way," but we dont want to hand them our favorite axe either. Anyway, this thing has survived years of abuse, been dropped countless times, knocked over, soaked up gallons of beer and is still playable. I can't vouch for all Hondos but his has been one tough guitar, in fact I've been thinking about getting one to keep around for the same purpose.

Hondo memories

My first guitar was a red Hondo Strat copy. I miss that axe

My Dean Exotica is that way... I leave it in the trunk of my car on cold winter days, pack it into a nice warm church building and it's still in tune and as it warms up I may need to adjust the tuning a little but the neck is straight as an arrow. Best $350 I ever spent on a guitar. I think I played a Hondo before. Can't remember much about it.

One of my first guitars was a Hondo II - Les Paul copy. It played great and it never let me down. I've been searching on eBay over the years to find one that is similar, but no luck yet. :(

Hondo was owned and distributed by IMC (International Music Company) in Fort Worth. The guitars were actually made by Samick. IMC distributed Akai and Studio Master, and they owned Hondo, Rhythm Band, Charvel, Ross, Jackson, and Black Diamond. I worked there as Director of Electronics from 1987 to 1988.

A few years ago, Akai bought IMC to control their own distribution. Charvel, Ross, and Hondo were folded and Jackson was sold to Fender. Rhythm Band is still in business.

my first electric was a Hondo les paul copy in shocking TURQUIOSE back in 1985. I loved it and can remember how amazing it was to play compared to the old acoustic I had learned on. Needless to say some bastage stole it from a dressing room a few years later. That was a great guitar, although I've no idea how good the ones made after that faired up.

I have a black Hondo Les Paul copy which needs the neck adjusting thanks to me storing it stringless for several years.

I bought it back in 1986

I have a cheapo HondoII Strat. The pickups would squeel like a stuck hog so I changed em out. The origionals were supremely cheap, the cheapest I've ever seen. I use it for slide on occasion and it works great.
I know the Guitar from "LoverBoy" used to have a signature model with them back in the early 80's.

I bought a Hondo Warlock copy in the spring of 1985. I thought I was the baddest motherfucker around... until i found out it was a copy, that is.
After a summer of work I had a real B.C. Rich NJ Warlock and a Peavey Renoun 400. Then I was the baddest motherfucker for sure!
Don't remember much about that Hondo except that it had a cheap ass whammy bar that wouldn't stay in tune.

I remember Hondo. They were copies and not too shabby. I also had a Seville LP copy once.

My first axe was a Hondo II Les Paul, a real workhorse.

I've got myself two 70's-ish Hondo II Les Paul double cut-away copies. Working on the one, the other is up and running and sure is a lovely beast.

I had a Honda Flying V in the early 80's.
Wasn't a damn thing wrong with it.I wouldn't mind having it now.

I use to have a Hondo back in the day. It was a decent guitar, had a nice tone and took an ass beating and held strong, it only cost me 30 bucks, and it lasted forever, finally a friend of mine talked me out of it for 50 bucks. I'd own another one if I found that good of a deal again.

Hondo Guitars

I had 2 Hondos when I was in high school, mid 80s. A red Deluxe Series 766 flying V and a strat style carved top. They were both well made cheap guitars. $110 each at that time. I wish that did not sell them.

My only experience with Hondo was a bass from nearly 20 years ago and it was the worst playing POS I've encountered to date. Even so, I've gigged with it. However, the quality as a whole of low end instruments has dramatically increased since then.

Like mharr552000, I bought a Hondo 'Warlock' in the mid 80's for $250. It was a great first guitar when I was a teen but the frets are too small for my fingers now. My 15 year old son has been playing it recently and loves it.
