I recently bought cakewalk homestudio 2002 and it is causing more problems that it is solving them. when i try recording through the line input of my soundcard(creative AWE64 16-bit) with HS 2002 the sound is delayed and has a lot of static. When not using HS 2002 i can hear everything perfectly through my computer speakers. I can even record with my crappy wave studio(it can only record one stereo track though). I am using windows 98. If anyone has any suggestions on what my problem may be please let me know.

You do know that the AWE cards are not truly full-duplex? Hmmm... I thought they owned up in the manual but they never come out and say it, nor could I find anything in the Creative website FAQs...

This is from Cakewalk's website in a FAQ item called "Sound Card Tips" ... it's a bit dated, but the info applies:

"Full duplexing (i.e., simultaneous audio recording and playback) with these cards is possible but you must have the latest drivers from Creative Labs installed (available from http://www.soundblaster.com). Once they’re installed, you can record/playback simultaneously. However, if you choose to enable full-duplexing, the recording will be at 16-bit but playback will be at 8-bit. This will cause playback to become distorted. When you are finished recording and are ready to playback/mix your recorded audio tracks, turn off simultaneous record/playback, and the playback will be at 16-bit. [italics mine- AlChuck] (Select Options | Audio | Advanced and check/uncheck the Simultaneous Record/Playback checkbox as needed.) "

Could that be what you are experiencing?

I used to have the same config as you and experienced major hiss (white noise) when recording. After saving and playback, it went away. Thats because of the problem with the card as detailed by AlChuck.

But I didn't experience any delay.

Anyhow, try Alchucks fix and see if that cures it.
