Homerecording.com for computers???

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of any "really good" message boards for computers? Cause I must say that this message board is one of the best sources for learning about recording that I have found and I have learned a LOT here. There are a lot of really knowledgeable people here that can bring down all the tech-talk to the level of the newbie. And now I'm really wanting to learn more about computers and the ins and outs of how they work (components, trouble-shooting, how NOT to blowup your computer, ect....). I guess you could say that I'm looking for a computer message board that is to computers as Homerecording.com is to recording. A board with people who know what their talking about, but at the same time can bring all their vast knowledge down to a "newbie level".

There is the forum at anandtech.com, tomshardware.com Your results will vary very much.

If you have any specific questions, free to email me. I do it for a living. Whether I know what I'm talking about is up to you!

I haven't participated on those boards for years.... if you think homerecording flames are bad.... oh man.

Those withdrawn geeks can get nasty!
 
Thanx Emeric, I'll check out those sites.

I'm just trying to get some basic knowledge about them, and as of now I don't know enough about them to really ask questions. I just want some place where I can lurk and see what others are asking and just gather information, then possibly post if I have a specific question on something.

More than likely I will just be lurking for a while until I kinda know what I'm talking about before I start really getting involved with the board. But I find those flamewars more funny than insutling or whatever......and when I do get into one I'll be sure to post this. :D

There is a really nice bunch of people at the tweakfiles.com bbs. Even though the site is about tweaking your computer, etc., they still answer even really simple questions about computers.
 
You should check out ZDnet. It's not a bulletin board but there are bunch of lists that you can subscribe to, and many informative articles.

I think thet best way way to learn about computers (outside of just getting in elbow deep) is to hit the search engines to query on specific questions. I mean you can't swing a dead cat out on the internet without hitting a good computer site.

I forgot to mention ZD University (I think it may have another name now??) It's an online computer school that lets you audit some of the beginner courses for free (They hope to get you interested in the intermediate and advanced course later). I'm sure you can find a couple of these sites.

Yeah, I know that there are a lot of information sites out there (and I'm definitly going to check into that ZDUniversity site :)), but I'm trying to find some good message boards so I can get an interest in a particular area from hearing about it on the board and then go off and do a search and find more information on that subject. But I don't like just reading a bunch of technical sites unless I have something to connect that information to. For example: I have some pretty technical recording books (ie. Huber & Runstein's Modern Recording Techniques) and before I came here it was all pretty much gibberish to me and no matter how many times I would read it I just wasn't clearly understanding what it was saying. I was just reading the words and not really understanding or making any connections to what I was reading. And in just the 9 months or so that I've been here, I can understand more in that book than if I would have read it a 1,000 times.

Also, I don't want to end up in one of those places where people "think" (and possibly sound like) they know what they're talking about but really don't, and there seems to be quite a few computer techie wannabes. So I prefer to go to places that are known for being reliable sources and not just full of wannabes who think they know what they're doing. (and with my little experience I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, cause there are some pretty convincing wannabes out there)

For anyone who's interested this is a pretty good beginner computer site that I stubled uppon a while ago.

I recommend Hardware Central as well... Most people there are really helpful, just don't mention it if you have an Intel CPU...
