i everyone. iam a 20 yrs old boy from India.
i am a keyboard player(starter).
i have a keyboard yamaha psr e213


i want to record my songs.so i am planning for home studio.but iam new to recording world.
before i have done some experiments in cool edit pro and recorded some bits.

iam planning to buy a new midi controller keyboard.but i dont know much about it.
can i use it to produce my music and record.

what are the ones i need for my studio..please tell me guys..
it will be a great help as iam a starter.

btw iam going to buy a synthesizer too so sujjest any best one < 1000$

Hey, and welcome.

You are right at the beginning with your questions, which is good and bad.

It means the sticky threads will be very useful to you, but it also means you have a lot to learn.


Just to get you started, midi is a data protocol. It's information.
Think of it as sheet music for computers. It won't make any sound without an instrument.

That instrument can be a virtual one in your computer, or it can be hardware, like a piano with midi in, or a rack synth, or whatever.
One of the main benefits of midi is that you can change it after you record, or even write it like sheet music, without a keyboard.


If you want to record the sound that your keyboard makes, you should check to see if it has line level outputs.
If so, you'd want an audio interface with line level inputs.


Buying a synth is like buying a car. There are so many different options, and different uses.

What do you plan to make? What style?
Are you looking for something with preprogrammed orchestral and keyboard sounds or something with raw square/triangle/sine waves that you can shape?


Do you plan to record singing in the future, or anything that would require a microphone? (guitars, lead instruments, shakers etc)
If so, you then want an interface with a few line inputs, and at least one microphone input.

Seems like a lot of things to consider, but your best to plan ahead and buy once.

A shot in the dark. If you're looking for a "preset" style synthesizer with good quality sounds, and a lot of them, I'd recommend one of the Yamaha DGX series. I've got their 73 note DGX synth, and I still haven't used up its potential (and that's without even starting to do signal processing on any of it). I don't know what keyboard prices are like in India, but I picked up mine for about $350.00, which is a pretty good deal for what this synth can do.

I've got three synths set up in my studio (pretty much my "default" set-up): a Roland SH-5, Roland JX3P, and the Yamaha DGX.
