I just spent a ton of money on building my home studio and are new to this, got a couple of books but didnt answer my questions,
What is the best way to hook up all my rack components to my 18 track mixer? do all the instruments go to thier rack component first then to the mixer? I bought a 4 channel mixer snake that have 2 unbalanced plugs on one end tip/ring and on the other end balanced tip/ring/ground..
I put all the balanced ones into the back of the mixer marked (inserts) is this the wrong way? the other ends i put the (tip) into the components inputs and (ring) into the outputs, is this correct? I ask this cause I can only get to each component by directly inserting the instrument into a Channel Input and like a mike input,
and also what is the best way to on my mixer to hook up my digital hardrive recorders?
I know this is alot to ask...
thanks in advance..

I little more info might help. For example, the mixer I have (Mackie 1402-VLZ-Pro) uses the insert for either send/receive to an effects unit which then passes through the EQ to the main, or a send (one-click) to my DAW then out of the DAW to a seperate channel to the mains for my final mix.

What board do you have and have you done a search on this board for possible connections? I only ask this because I asked a similar question about a month and a half ago without doing a search of the boards and people raped me on it. A couple were nice enough to help and the rest I plowed through on my own. Searching the boards is a great way to find questions that are similar to yours which have already been answered. Good Luck with your recording.

It would be more helpfull if you named the actual 'components'.

I keep losing all i type for some reason here.. I have a Behringer 18 channel rack mixer with 6 inserts on back as well as on top effects send and returns and aux send and returns and stereo inputs, sorry i am not gonna retype again all i did for the 4th time,
rack is 2 akai hd recorders
effects,
feedback destroyer,
compression,
line conditioners,
all have balenced and unbalanced inputs and outputs

thanks for replying

You dont need feedback destroyers unless you are doing live work usually.

For tracking I would use the inserts to go out from the individual channels to the recorders.

Route the outputs of the recorder onto their own channels. Use the inserts during mixdown for any external compressors or EQs.

Use the Aux send and returns to hook up any effects processors.

Dick, Your Welcome. But dont stand to close to me. People will talk. ;)

Feedback Destroyer

How familiar are you with Feedback Destroyers? From what I can tell the Behringer DSP1124P is a 2x12 Parametric EQ that can be used automatically or manually. Have you ever used this model? Is it effective? How do you set it up for a live room, do you really have to deliberately induce feedback in order for the unit to set itself?

Any feedback (Hah ha) is appreciated
