I very new to the world of home recording but learning thing all the time (so bare with me).

My setup

I have a couple of issues, but won't trouble you guys with everything... If I can figure out some of these it may help with other issues.

1. I am trying to get the Alesis drum kit to record via audio but I cannot seem to get any sound from it - I may have them hooked up incorrectly. I have tried running AUX out or Monitor Left/Right out from the brain of the Alesis to... (let's say) to input 5/6. In protools I create an audio track and line the input to 5/6 but nothing comes through.

2. Other alternative (from what I heard) is to run the drums via midi. So I tried Midi out from Alesis brain to Midi in on Focusrite, but while in ProTools I don't see any selection to choose it.

I hope this enough to get some help..

Hi,
Ok; I'm going to forget midi for now. It's a different thing all together.

Do you get successful audio input from any channels on the focusrite?
What I mean is, has it ever worked? Can you record a mic or guitar or whatever?

The track would have to be record armed for you to be able to hear live feedback. Could that be the problem?
There's also an option for 'low latency monitoring' and 'input only monitoring' in the protools menus. You might need to toggle those, as they have varying effects on how monitoring works.

You might also want to investigate Setup>IO to make sure your ins and outs are properly mapped.
A good idea might be to just select all on the input tab and hit delete. Once done, hit default and it will repopulate the list.
You can do the same for output tab if you like. It'll do no harm.

If you think everything's setup fine, test the drum module outputs into an amp or something.
If that works, test the interface inputs with guitar or something like that.

1. I have plug a mic into input 1 and input 2 of the focusrite and enabled record track in Pro Tools. That has works fine. In the DAW, I have set output to monitor 1/2 and input 1 or 2 depending which I am plugged into via Focusrite.

2. I have guitar/bass plugged into ElevenRack. The ElevenRack is plug in via SPDIF into Focusrite. In the I/O Setup I have renamed the SPDIF to ElevenRack for easy labeling. Record enabled track and it works fine.

3. Using Main Out L / R from DM10 brain into monitors I can get sound.

Have you tried the Alesis main output to different inputs on the Focusrite?
