How-dy,

New to this computer recording, can anyone tell me if I can record

multiple, mixable tracks in Home Studio 2004 using my Delta 44

soundcard and break out box?

I've tried to and it just doesn't seem to work. All and everything

is in working order as far as I can tell(which now is quite alot)

So please can you guys help me out?

I'll buy you a cold one, how about it?

The answer is yes. So what's the problem??

You do realize you have to have a pre-amp or mixer with pre-amps if you are recording through a microphone (unless your breakout box has a pre-amp - not familiar with it, so I don't know).

Don't mean to sound rude, but your post is incredibly vague. Have you read the manual? Or tried one of the tutorials? It should be straightforward. Just take a couple of hours to start learning the program. If you don't have a manual, then it should be in the help section, or there should be tutorial files you can open. You need to go through everything from how to setup Homestudio to work with your soundcard, profile it, make the right settings etc etc.
 
I'm running thre drums through a mixer and the guitars through a pre amp and then direct into the breakout box(leaves a lot of room that way).The problem is not the recording it's the separation. for some reason(hence my question) I can't seem to separate the guitars from the drums IN the tracks(they both register at the same moment inall the tracks) no separation. Now I guess my question would be more about the Delta 44 sound card properties than Cakewalk itself.

I would like to record the drums and guitars simultaneously on separate tracks that can be mixed separately through my sound card without interference from each other. Does anyone know if this can be done with the stuff I have?
Does that make a little sense?
 
Again the answer is yes. Assuming you are not recording everything in the same room with bleed from the mics.

If they are isolated at the source, then they should be isolated in HS2004 - assuming you have the track inputs set properly.
 
It sounds similar to the ol' Creative What You Hear problem. :)

When you are recording, it's important to ensure that the input driver you are using isn't summing all of the signals onto a single track.

In my particular case, if I use EWX24/96 WaveRecMixer as the input device, I get each and every previous track mixed onto the latest audio track together with whatever I'm recording.

If I use EWX24/96 WaveRec then all I get on the latest track is just the instrument intended for that track.

Does that relate to your problem? Have a read of your M-audio operator's manual and see if what I describe is covered.

What are selecting as the tracks' sources (In) in HS2004?

If you are, for ex., plugged into the Delta's 1 and 2 inputs, and you are selecting 1/2 Stereo as the source in HS2004 for both drums and guitar, then you will get two identical tracks (with drums on one side, and guitar on the other).

OTOH, the problem could be in how you have the breakout box configured. I'm not familiar with that, so as BluesMeister suggests, you need to check out the manual.

Bottom line is that you should be able to record everything isloated on its own track. So something is wrong in your setup.

Delta 1/2, Delta 3/4, and Delta5/6. So I don't get it.
the manual says" The Delta 44 drivers may intellegently

sychronize the beginning and playback across all audio devices on

the board. when using application software that is capable of

using multiple channels simultaneosly, select "Single and In Sync"

to ensure all audio channnels will begin play back and recording

at the same time. Looked "Greyed out". Is ther some sort of

multi -channel manager or something I'm missing on my

computer? I'll keep lookin' around and LYK. thanks

That's the way it works. Inputs get recognized as a stereo pair. Delta 1/2 together make a stereo input (1 left and 2 right). If you are plugged into inputs 1 and 2, you need to select Delta 1/2 Left to get the #1 input, and Delta 1/2 Right to get the #2 input.
 
yeah I get that part. thanks . I can't get the separation. For some reason 2004 isn't letting me separate the tracks. I'll keep plugging away(sorry about that) and get back to yas.
 
When I first installed HS2004, I had some difficulties with both my Delta1010 and my 44. I had to un-install HS2004 and my previous versions of HS and delete all the aud.ini files. Then, get the latest drivers for both the 1010 and the 44 (both boxes which had drivers included were out of date...suspect the product sat on the shelf for some time). Then, re-install HS2004 and get the latest patch from Cakewalk. Without the patch, HS2004 does not work as advertised and would not record multi-tracks simultaneously.

After all that, everything worked as expected.
