I use Acid as my main app, but I would like something for editing and recording midi and audio. The new Home Studio 2004 looks good, and I think it may fit my needs. I'll do mixing in Acid, so I I think Sonar may be too much. What do you think?

Homestudio2004 is da bomb. Much cheaper than SONAR, and virtually all of the important features. Check out the comparision sheets on the Cakewalk site if you wanna be sure you're not missing anything.

You can also tell us more about what you want to do with it. Perhaps you want that one thing HS2004 can't do. :)

What I'm looking for is an app to record vocals, instruments, etc. Also, I need something to record and edit midi. I don't need anything esoteric, just basic. Acid can do the rest for me. Acid plays loops and wav. files, and midi (VSTis), and uses DX effects. Home Studio can do the wav.s and midi (DXi) and also uses DX effects, so I think they would be comparable. From what I can see on the Cakewalk web site it looks as if Home Studio would do what I want.

Home Studio can do that! I think you will find some other goodies in there that may surprise you. I have XL which comes with Amp Sims, Tape Saturation effects, et. al. That may or may not float your boat, but I'm happy with it.

I do vocals, guitars and a ton of MIDI.

Thumbs up from me.

A friend of mine switched from Acid to HS2004 a while ago and he hasn't missed anything yet.... :)

Plus, he hasn't used 80% of the features yet LOL
