Hello all I really am a n00b to this but I'm looking to start recording at home and need some pointers, I need a mic preamp (got a mate who works for a company that can get hold of Vivanco stuff, anyone know much about the MA222), I've got a Shure SM58, will that do or will i need a condenser mic, if so which would you recommend? I've also got software, Acoustica Mixcraft, MAGIX music maker 2005 deLuxe, Cool Edit Pro 2.1, Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0 and also Cubase. Which would you say would best suit my needs i.e. overdubbing vocals to backing tracks. Also what type of Laptop would i need to run all this as I'll be mobile with it and my home PC aint coming.

Any help appreciated dudes

You should read the Cubase and Sound Forge manuals. They really tell you a LOT about how the application works.

My obligatory standard reply that I keep in Wordpad:

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:

Good Newbie guide that also explains all the basics:
