No!!!!! I'm not going into the microphone forum - EVER :D :D :D
SP, when he's there, wouldn't talk to me anyway
Harvey is very cool!

As far as the "listening test" I've been to many AES and NAMM shows. Listening tests there are nothing but a very very bad joke.
Its a noisy environment, acoustics don't excist there, and, as I keep saying - it depends on the gear used.

Example - earlier this year one of the mic 'brands' (read - importers) had put together a bunch of mics people could listen through, all more expensive than their wonderful looking new product. Really impressed everyone, apart from a bunch of pros who walked past, looked and laughed.
Of cause their mic sounded just as good! Everything was plugged into a small mackie, so the greatest mic will only sound as good as the Mackie preamp. One more little detail, their own mic went into the Mackie line level, because it went through an Avalon first ...........

Even the 3D Microphone test CD is, imho, a bit of a joke. Getting a couple of singers to sing the same phrase almost 30 times? It would sound different even if you used the same mic.....

Sjoko the Skeptic:cool:

It's also amazing to get a couple of singers to remember the
words to any phrase 30 times! (just kidding of course)

I agree........ now imagine having to do the same with bass players? NO CHANCE!!!
