can anyone suggest a few good books on home recording ... something that's not too dated? I'm more interested in information on equipment and technique right now, not acoustical treatment.

Bill Gibson over at Artistpro.com has a nice set of books

for honest gear comparison and recording techniques, I say you learn more at this forum than from any book. You get a hundred honest tested opinions rather than one dude discussing his setup in a book.

I agree. The search function on this site will be much more helpful than any book you could buy.

framos,

These forums are a great resource and there is a lot to learn from here.

I went out and bought myself the Dummes book, Homerecording for Musicians. It has a very basic overview of the who recording process.

To give you an idea.... When I first bought the book I knew what a compressor did, however I wasn't 100% on the different settings ... threshold etc. Once I read the section on compressors it all made sence.

That's my suggestion,

Porter
